The top four leading scorers in NBA history have played for the Los Angeles Lakers.
And LeBron James has the opportunity to keep running away with his mark after topping Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record.
Kareem’s mark stood for over four decades and looked like something impossible to match, let alone break.
But LeBron continues to play at the same level he played when he first entered the league back in 2003, a true testament to his longevity.
James’ unmatched production this season has made it evident that Father Time has nothing against him.
He continues to beat the odds, and it most definitely looks as if he could play at the same level for another three years at least.
So, when asked about whether he’s ready to call it a day or if he’s looking forward to putting up even more numbers, the former first-overall pick didn’t hesitate to let everybody know about his plans:
“For sure. I know I can still play a couple more years. The way I’m feeling, the way my body’s been reacting to me over the course of the season, I know I can play a couple more years. It’s all about my mind. If my mind is still into it, if I’m still motivated, I’m ready to go out and compete for championships,” James said. “I feel like that’s what I can still do for any group of guys, for any franchise. I can go out there and still win multiple championships or win a championship. So, that’s my mindset. But it’s all about the mind. If my mind is sharp and I feel motivated, I’m ready to go out and prepare myself every single day.”

James’ contract with the Lakers will run through the 2025 season, and he’s always been vocal about his desire to play with his oldest son, Bronny.
Bronny will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft class, and there’s no reason to think James won’t be able to fulfill his goal, perhaps the only thing that will still motivate him going forward.
So, whoever dreams of breaking LeBron’s record will most likely have to top the 40,000-point plateau, as The King is far from done and still has plenty in the tank.
