There is no doubt that LeBron James is the most important part of the Los Angeles Lakers…at least for now.
James put his future with the team into doubt this past weekend when asked about perhaps playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers one more time before he retires within a few years.
“The door’s not closed on that.”

When asked about a potential return to the Cavs, James said “the door’s not closed on that.”
As you can imagine, even that short statement sent the entire NBA world into a tailspin and definitely got the Lakers’ front office nervous.
Back To The Land?
When James first left the Cavaliers early in his NBA career, he was seen as a villain because he chose the Miami heat over his hometown team.
However, he returned several seasons later and ended up winning a championship for Cleveland before departing for the west coast where he’d win another ring for the Lakers.
You would think he’d retire in LA because of his age but this 37-year-old is showing few signs of slowing down.
It’s really not out of the realm of possibility that he’d still be capable of playing great even after his contract with LA expires in 2023.
If that’s the case, why not come back to Cleveland and close out his career where it all started?
That would forever cement James as an absolute legend in Ohio and would be a wonderful way to conclude his historic time in the NBA.
But will it happen or is this just James talking nice and making Cavs fans happy during the All-Star Game, which was held in Cleveland?
The likelihood of James coming back to Cleveland isn’t high but anything can happen with him.
