Even with all the problems that the Los Angeles Lakers have, LeBron James is currently in the midst of a historic season.
This is because during this season James will surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with the most NBA regular-season points of all time.
That’s a huge accomplishment and firmly plants James in the conversation as one of the best players of all time, no matter how you feel about him.

But before James reaches that point, he is surpassing another big milestone.
He has now scored 45,023 points, which makes him the only player with over 45,000 total career points when you combine his regular season and playoff totals.
What an accomplishment for James, who is still trying to get his team on track.
James’ Jams
James has been playing hard since he entered the league 20 years ago and has been the leader of every team, every year.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that he is reaching the 45,000-point milestone.
Now James has only one more goal to reach: Abdul-Jabbar’s regular-season points total.
That is sure to happen soon, probably within the next 40 games.
Despite his impressive output, the Lakers are still sputtering near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
It doesn’t matter if James is scoring 30-40 points nightly, the team continues to struggle.
It will be a real shame if the biggest highlight of the season for the Lakers is James’ claiming of the point title.
Surely, they’d like to reach the playoffs again after failing to be in the play-in tournament last year.
But the chances of that happening are slim, at least right now.
James is breaking records and stunning historians but his team is still floundering.
