There were more than a few fans of the Los Angeles Lakers who thought the team would acquire Kyrie Irving over the weekend.
Irving’s desire to play alongside LeBron James in LA has never been a secret and the team had what it took to sign him away from the Brooklyn Nets.
Of course, that didn’t end up happening and Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, leaving the Lakers once again empty-handed.
Striking out on Kyrie could be a blessing in disguise. Moving Russ for legit 3-and-d player(s) is more of what this team needed anyway.

But not all Lakers fans are upset about this.
Lakers Daily, a premier Twitter fan account, thinks it was all for the best.
“Striking out on Kyrie could be a blessing in disguise,” they said on Sunday.
“Moving Russ for legit 3-and-d player(s) is more of what this team needed anyway.”
They are not the only ones who are hoping the Lakers pivot from this missed chance and instead focus on shipping out Russell Westbrook.
Many followers of the team agree that the team would be so much better if they could exchange Westbrook for perimeter 3-and-D players who can improve the offense immediately.
Instead of landing Irving, the team could instead perhaps grab multiple athletes to fill the roles needed.
It is clear now that the Irving deal was never going to happen because the Nets weren’t negotiating in good faith with LA.
That is why fans want to move on from the whole debacle as soon as possible and get to work before Thursday’s big NBA trade deadline.
There are still multiple players who the Lakers could focus on acquiring but time is running out.
Will they end up making fans very happy or very disappointed when the deadline rolls around?
