The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of time to think about everything that went wrong last season and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The only good thing about the Lakers not making the postseason is that it gives them a longer period to reflect on the problems they are having and allows them more chances to fix them.
Fans are doing the same thing.
In the weeks since the Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention, they have been wondering aloud about the best steps forward for their beloved and troubled team.
Restless brain Lakers thought: For 2 seasons we’ve seen LA bring in a high usage PG to take some of the playmaking burden off of LeBron & it’s created problems both times. They need someone willing to fill a Derek Fisher-esque role, who CAN be an initiator but doesn’t HAVE to be

Lakers expert Trevor Lane made a very good point about the team’s lineup and made a suggestion about how to make it better.
“Restless brain Lakers thought: for 2 seasons we’ve seen LA bring in a high usage PG to take some of the playmaking burden off of LeBron & it’s created problems both times. They need someone willing to fill a Derek Fisher-esque role, who CAN be an initiator but doesn’t HAVE to be,” Lane tweeted on Monday.
That’s a valid point: by hoping to alleviate some of the pressure on James, has the team been going about things all wrong?
LeBron Leading
The basic premise behind Lane’s tweet is that the team should double down on LeBron James and stop trying to take the “burden” off of him.
There are valid reasons to approve of this approach.
Jame was the most reliable and powerful member of the Lakers last season and one of the few people who could be counted on again and again.
He played more minutes that he had in years and was putting up incredible numbers – despite having some pesky injuries.
It is obvious that this team should continue to run through James, with all other players accommodating him.
Therefore, Lane’s idea makes a lot of sense.
The problem is: where does this team find a Fisher-esque player to fill that role?
