Klay Thompson keeps fueling the Golden State Warriors while Stephen Curry is out with a shoulder injury.
He recently had one of the best games of his career during a double-OT win over the Atlanta Hawks, scoring 54 points with ten triples on 21/39 shooting (53.8%).
Needless to say, it was an emotional moment for a player who missed back-to-back seasons with career-threatening injuries, especially considering how much backlash he faced from some analysts who claimed he was done.
So, when asked about his mindset ahead of this game, Klay claimed he got inspired after talking to Dominique Wilkins, who went through something similar back in the day:
“I don’t go into halftime thinking, ‘I must get 50 tonight.’ I just go out there and play my game,” Thompson said. “It’s a huge accomplishment for myself. I mean, absolutely big. Just seeing Dominique Wilkins before the game, talking to him, telling him how much of an inspiration he was for me, coming back form Achilles to average in the high twenties after a decade of play inspired me to be myself, and 54 points is nothing to slouch at. There were some hard days for me when I didn’t know that this would be possible in real time. I am just going to embrace the heck out of it.”

It’s hard to expect a player to be the same guy after two major knee injuries.
Some aren’t even able to come back at all.
So, to watch Klay put on these kinds of performances is definitely inspiring.
