Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors was eruptive on Monday night, scoring a monster 54 points in a huge win over the Atlanta Hawks.
They were his most points since his career-best 60 points back in December of 2016 and just his fourth 50-point game and his seventh with at least 10 three-pointers.
In other words, it was a very big night for Thompson.
Following the game, fans of the Warriors were elated to see him playing so well and thought that perhaps the vintage form of Thompson was back.

But then Thompson said something that raised a few eyebrows.
“After this year, there’s only one year left on my deal. Man, I got to enjoy every day in a Warriors uniform,” Thompson said.
He might not have meant to but Thompson’s words left people concerned that Thompson was suggesting he wouldn’t always be suited up in a Warriors jersey.
This comment comes hot on the heels of speculation that Thompson could in fact leave the Warriors when his contract expires.
Supposedly the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers are the two possible suitors who he could sign with if his time with Golden State comes to an end.
But before that could happen, the Warriors would surely offer him a massive deal in the hopes of keeping him around.
Will Thompson play the rest of his career with the Warriors or will he find a new team to sign with?
A few years ago, the thought of Thompson departing seemed so unlikely but few players remain with one team for their entire time in the league.
