Barkley isn’t the only one who thinks that Thompson’s output is slightly diminished after multiple years off the court due to injury and rehabilitation.
Thompson has heard the talk about him from Barkley and others – and it has hurt him.

Thompson was incredibly honest about the comments the other night.
Following his game with the Warriors, Thompson got real:
“To hear someone say ‘oh, he’s not the same he was prior to the injury,’ it’s like, duh. Who goes through something like that and comes back? It just hurt my heart hearing that.”
Thompson said he won’t let these words slow him down or stop him from fighting hard – but you have to wonder if the criticism of him will have some effect.

Thompson’s current average in 2022-23 is 12.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
Meanwhile, his career average is 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
When you see him play, you notice that Thompson isn’t as consistent as he used to be and sometimes misses shots that he used to sink every single time.
Again, Thompson is coming back from a very severe injury and multiple years of watching but not playing ball.
Since he was gone for years, it stands to reason that he might take more time to get back into his previous form.
Last season, Thompson didn’t shoot more than 40% from the three-point range for the first time in his career.
So far this season, he is just 31% from downtown.
He has room to grow, there is no doubt about that.
But he also has the belief that he can.
