The Cincinnati Reds are an absolute mess at the moment, and the situation isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
They are, by far, the worst team in MLB with a lousy 3-19 record, a sad reflection of the current state of the franchise.
Their owners, the Castellinis (Bob and his son Phil) decided to cut payroll this year, getting rid of important players and essentially waving the white flag before the season started.
The Reds were doomed from the start.
College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, a known Reds fan, went to Twitter to voice his frustration.
Fans Are Extremely Frustrated By The Situation
His voice became the voice of thousands of fans, criticizing ownership for deliberately failing to compete in 2022.
“It’s May 1st and my beloved @Reds have won ONE game since April 10th and have averaged 2.7 runs scored/game during that stretch. I’m a diehard fan but feel they’re already irrelevant and essentially mathematically eliminated from meaningful baseball games. Very sad,” he wrote.

It’s not that the Reds are bad: it’s that they are so bad that the next worst team in baseball, the Detroit Tigers, have four more wins, at 7-14.
The Reds have won only one game since April 10, which is a travesty.
To make matters worse, reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jonathan India was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, nursing some right hamstring tightness.
Additionally, Joey Votto still hasn’t gotten going at the plate, and other key contributors remain injured or underperforming.
The roster is a mess, the ownership is a mess, and the fans are the ones paying for the incompetence of the people making the decisions.
It isn’t fair.
