There hasn’t been a lot of love about the Detroit Pistons over the last few years.
The team ended last season as the 14th seed in the East with a 23-59 record, despite having Cade Cunningham, the number one draft pick from the previous year.
That was actually the most amount of wins in three years: they only scored 20 wins in 2020-21 and 2019-20 as well.
In fact, Detroit hasn’t been above .500 since 2015, when they barely scraped by with 44 wins and 38 losses.

Despite all this, fans are thinking the upcoming season might be a particularly good one because of more exciting draft picks and the further progression of Cunningham.
Cunningham was actually in attendance for the Pistons’ Summer League game on Thursday night.
He sat right next to his head coach, Dwane Casey.
The two chit-chatted throughout the game as they watched their new prospects battle against – and eventually beat – the Portland Trail Blazers.
What’s the plan that Casey and Cunningham are crafting?
Can Casey & Cunningham Do It?
Neither Casey nor Cunningham nor even the most devoted Pistons fan thinks the team can make the NBA Finals within the next couple of years.
But that doesn’t mean they can’t take a step in the right direction in the upcoming season.
It is going to take a lot of work and will require that everyone works together with a common goal.
That’s why seeing Casey and Cunningham watching the Summer League game is so promising, it shows that they are devoted to the team even when the games don’t matter.
They’re all in on Detroit’s resurgence.
With rookies Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren now a part of the squad, there is reason to believe that maybe the ship is finally being pointed in the right direction.
