For reasons that have never been disclosed, the Memphis Grizzlies took it upon themselves to rival the Golden State Warriors.
The Grizzlies have antagonized the Dubs for years, even despite the fact that they haven’t met in the Western Conference Finals or even played in the same division.
That’s why Draymond Green and the Warriors’ veterans believe there’s no such thing as a rivalry.
The Warriors believe that the Grizzlies aren’t on their level and state that for a rivalry to happen, the other team would actually have to win something as well.
Nonetheless, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins isn’t buying that narrative at all, and he recently explained why the Warriors and Grizzlies had developed a legit rivalry over the past couple of years:
“Hell yeah, it’s a rivalry,” Perkins said. “And we gotta stop letting Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors try the big brother approach and throwing out their four championships. The definition of a rivalry is the act of competing, meaning, ‘every time we see each other, we’re gonna go at each other’s heads,’ and that’s exactly what happens when the Memphis Grizzlies and the Golden State Warriors match up. And not only do they compete, but they don’t like each other, and they have let it be known publically.”

It’s become painfully evident that these teams don’t like each other.
Recently, Dillon Brooks and Green starred in an epic back-and-forth and shared their thoughts about each other, so you could pretty much agree with Perkins right there.
But then again, why did the Grizzlies suddenly decide they wanted to square off with the Warriors? What gave them the right? What have they won?
The Grizzlies have never made it to the NBA Finals, and most of their current players weren’t even in the league when the Warriors started dominating.
So, are they just looking to make a statement at the Dubs’ expense?
Maybe the best way to do that would be by actually winning a ring.
