It looked like the Cleveland Browns would go with a quarterback depth chart with Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett, and Joshua Dobbs.
However, Brissett will take over as starter while Watson serves his 11-game suspension due to violations of the league’s player conduct policy.
Meanwhile, Dobbs showed promise during the preseason, making him the obvious choice over Josh Rosen.
But with only two active quarterbacks on their roster, the Browns decided to bring in another one.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman tweeted that the Browns claimed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond.
After being selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Mond lasted just one season with the Vikings.
The trade for Nick Mullens could have been the beginning of the end for Mond at Minnesota.
The hopes of him taking over Kirk Cousins one day are now gone.
But the new Vikings regime decided to move away from him because he struggled to deliver, even against reserve players, during the preseason.
Now, he becomes an emergency quarterback for the Browns, and will only see action if Brissett and Dobbs cannot play.
Mond Nothing More Than A Backup?
Reports reveal that Mond would have signed with the Vikings practice squad if he wasn’t claimed on the waiver wire.
But as he proceeds with his career, will he ever have the chance to become the starter?
After all, he was only one of three SEC quarterbacks with over 9,000 passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards.
That’s a far cry from his NFL journey so far, wherein he has completed only two passes for five yards during games that matter.
