The San Francisco 49ers need to make a decision about Trey Lance, and they need to make it soon.
They’re sold on Brock Purdy, and the fact that they signed Sam Darnold only makes it all the more evident that they’re not that sold on Lance as of now.
Darnold could be a very serviceable backup for Purdy, and could even take the reins of the team if he fails to impress.
So, as much as Kyle Shanahan has talked about how good Lance could become in the league, maybe it’s time he tries his luck somewhere else.
With that in mind, Kay Adams of FanDuel TV made a case for them to trade him to the Minnesota Vikings.
Should the @Vikings trade for Trey Lance?? 👀

For starters, he’d be joining his hometown team, all while getting to play in an environment where he wouldn’t be pressured or rushed to compete and deliver right away.
He’d get the opportunity to learn and play under Kirk Cousins, a proven veteran who would embrace that mentorship role, especially knowing that he’s going to become a free agent next summer and will most likely leave the team.
More than that, this move would save the 49ers a much-needed $9 million against the cap over the next couple of seasons, as they’re already in a tough spot financially, and that’s without signing star pass-rusher Nick Bosa to a new deal.
Lance might never succeed in the Bay, at least not with the current situation, so he should be the first one to push for a trade.
