There are few teams in the history of the NBA as powerful and iconic and memorable as the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers that ruled 1980s basketball.
The team won multiple NBA titles and transformed the way that people play – and watch – the sport.
Simply put, the NBA wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for the Lakers of this era.

And now the old team is getting back together.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar posted a picture of the old crew hanging out together in a group picture that featured him, Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper, James Worthy, head coach Pat Riley, and others.
“First time we were all together for a practice since I retired in 1989…. This is how you make a memory !!” Abdul-Jabbar said on Twitter.
After more than 30 years, this historic crew is hanging out again and shooting around the ball just like old times.
Hawaiian Hangout
NBA insiders say that Riley is conducting a practice session with this old team in Hawaii.
That location is no coincidence because the Showtime Lakers actually used to practice in that state back in the 80s.
We aren’t entirely sure why the crew is joining up once again.
Obviously, they aren’t preparing to re-enter the NBA so maybe it’s just a chance for a bunch of old friends to hang out and enjoy the company.
Or maybe there is something else going on: a documentary perhaps.
Whatever the reason, it’s great to see this group of men together again.
There is so much history packed into this photograph – and so many championship rings too.
With the recent passing of Bill Russell, it feels even more important to cherish NBA icons while they are alive and well.
Seeing this squad together one more time is sure to warm the hearts of all NBA fans.
