The Los Angeles Chargers are trending up after missing the playoffs by a little over 30 seconds.
Say what you want about Brandon Staley’s coaching decisions, but the future looks bright with quarterback Justin Herbert.
Staley knows that you can’t coach scared with a player like him under center.
He’s got a strong arm for long throws and impressive accuracy through tight windows.
Having him as their starter will make the Chargers competitive for a long time, especially in a division that has Derek Carr and Patrick Mahomes.
But the former Oregon standout continues to impress by setting a new record.

The tweet by NFL on CBS reveals that Herbert’s 17 300-yard passing games since his rookie campaign are the most by any quarterback during the last two seasons.
Tom Brady is second with 16 while rounding out the top four are Mahomes and Josh Allen with 14 each.
This record proves that Herbert is already among the young quarterbacks that will take over the NFL for the next decade.
Continuing this trend will eventually land them a playoff spot.
It’s Not An Easy Feat
Even if the current NFL is a pass-happy version of the game, getting a 300-yard passing game is challenging.
If it’s that easy, then every quarterback should easily reach that number.
But that’s not the case because the defense will work to limit a team’s total yards.
Likewise, dropped balls and run plays count for zero yards.
A run-first team also shortens the clock, giving a passing team fewer opportunities.
However, Herbert’s feat proves that he’s ready to dominate as he is yet to reach his peak.
If only the Chargers defense is as tenacious as him, then the team won’t have to rely on tied games to clinch postseason berths.
