Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto is the talk of MLB right now.
Not only did he win the Home Run Derby in impressive fashion on Monday, but he is also in the middle of negotiations to extend his deal with the Nats.
Washington offered $440 million over 15 years, and the proposal was rejected by Soto’s camp.
He wants more money per year: ideally, he would be looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 million, but he may be willing to accept less if the number of years decreased, too.
With the Nats’ current offer, he would be making $29.3 million per year, which is too little for a player of his caliber.
The Nationals are said to be willing to make one more proposal: if it’s rejected, they will entertain trade offers for their 23-year-old star.
New York Post columnists Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman discussed the possibility of the Nats trading Soto.
Scott Boras addressed the possibility of a Juan Soto trade on “The Show: A NY Post Baseball Podcast" with @Joelsherman1 & @JonHeyman.

Boras Is Encouraging Teams To Trade For Soto
Specifically, they talked with uber-agent Scott Boras, Soto’s representative.
Soto’s camp, including Boras, are open to the possibility of the outfielder switching teams in the next few days.
The trade deadline is set for August 2, so there is some time for teams to negotiate a deal.
By reading Boras’ remarks, it’s evident he would like to see Soto traded to a big-market team willing to offer him a more lucrative deal: think about the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Yankees, or even the St. Louis Cardinals.
The player has 118 career home runs, including 20 this year, and is an on-base machine with tons of career achievements already at his young age.
He is a special bat, a franchise-altering talent.
The Soto sweepstakes will officially start if he keeps rejecting the Nationals.
