JP Sears Still Fighting To Earn His Spot After Another Amazing Outing

The New York Yankees have been as successful as they are this season thanks in large part to the home runs hit by Aaron Judge, but there’s more to it than just that.

The starting rotation has also been carrying this team as they continue to boast the best record in all of baseball.

Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, and Jameson Taillon have carried the load, but New York got another brilliant spot start from 26-year-old left-hander JP Sears.

Sears threw 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball on Tuesday and improved his record to 3-0 on the season after another brilliant spot start.

However, as seen in the tweet below, he’s still fighting for his spot on the roster, even after such a strong outing.

Following tonight’s game, the Yankees optioned LHP JP Sears to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Back To Square One

This has to be somewhat deflating for Sears.

He’s done everything the Yankees have asked him to do when his number has been called, yet he has been unable to keep his roster spot, which is quite unfair.

It just goes to show that teams are still trying to manipulate the service time of players, something that players hoped the new CBA would curb.

But Sears has pitched too well to keep being sent down to Triple-A.

He gave the Yankees some much-needed innings coverage on Tuesday night and played a key role in New York’s 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The bullpen did its job once he was done, but he led the way in the win for the Bronx Bombers.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep him from being sent down to Triple-A again, and that’s the sad reality for some pitchers who are still early in their careers.

It’s a frustrating thing for many pitchers.
