New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino has had a season to remember.

He came to the Yankees with the objective of winning a timeshare with Kyle Higashioka and Ben Rortvedt, and is now the unquestioned starter and a legitimate All-Star player.

Trevino’s contributions are not limited to the field, though.

He is also an ambassador of the Yankees brand and fans love him.

As a result, he is the Yankees’ Heart and Hustle Award winner.

“Congratulations to our 2022 #HeartandHustle award winner, @HipHipJose5! No one better embodies the spirit and traditions of the game than Jose,” the Yanks’ Twitter account tweeted.

What Is The Heart And Hustle Award?

According to the league official site, “the Heart & Hustle Award is voted on by Alumni and active Major League players and is presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.”

The MLBPAA (Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association) put together 30 committees, “comprised of Alumni players with established relationships to each team. One player from each major league team is chosen by the committees based on the passion, desire, and work ethic demonstrated both on and off the field.”

The alumni and active players will examine all 30 nominees and vote for a final winner near the end of the season.

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies won the award last year.

It’s yet another cool achievement for Trevino, who is having a career season in the Bronx.

He is hitting .265/.304/.461 with 10 home runs and 3.4 Wins Above Replacement, or WAR, and has a place among the most valuable catchers in the game.
