He has been exactly as advertised, if not better.
The White Sox should consider themselves lucky he picked them, as he has been a consistent run-producer for years.
The pinnacle of his performance came in 2020, when he won an MVP award.
Throughout all these years, he has battered Detroit Tigers’ pitching to help pad his stats.
He is not a “stat-padder” by any means, and his career .292/.354/.508 line proves that.
However, it doesn’t hurt that the Tigers pitching hasn’t really been competitive in a while.
Abreu loves to hit against Detroit, and this spectacular stat proves it.
“José Abreu of the @whitesox has 195 hits against the Tigers since he debuted in 2014. That is the most hits by any MLB player against a single team in that time,” Stats by STATS tweeted on Friday.

The Tigers Are Abreu’s Favorite Victim
Since Abreu made his debut, no one has had more hits against a single opponent than the Cuban star against the Tigers.
It’s amazing: it looks like every game he plays against them ends up with two or three hits for him.
The White Sox are about to start a weekend series against the Tigers, so it should be a productive three days if we believe recent history.
The 2022 season has been positive for the 35-year-old Abreu.
While he isn’t boasting the kind of power production that made him famous, he is still slashing .313/.386/.458 with 15 homers, 79 runs, and 69 RBI for the pale hose.
He will be a key cog in the lineup as Chicago tries to overcome a three-game deficit in the AL Central and make the postseason.
