The San Francisco 49ers have a somewhat good problem on their hands.
They have two young quarterbacks to build around and compete to see who’s the right guy to lead the franchise going forward.
And while most fans and analysts would argue that they would be much better with a veteran QB under center — and they might be right — the organization seems comfortable with their QB room as it is right now.
That’s mostly because of Brock Purdy’s impressive play in his rookie season.
He took over the helm of the offense once Jimmy Garoppolo fell with an injury and went undefeated in the regular season before a heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, with all the debate about whether they should turn back to Trey Lance if he’s healthy next season, it seems like GM John Lynch doesn’t feel that way.
According to David Lombardi, Lynch actually said that Purdy is leading the race to be their QB1 in 2023 if he’s healthy.
John Lynch on 49ers' starting QB job: "With the way he's played, Brock's probably the leader in the clubhouse for that (if he's healthy)"

Purdy was impressive and earned his teammates’ trust and praise in no time, and their offense looked better than ever when he was on the field.
He suffered an elbow injury early in that NFC Championship Game versus the Eagles, but he’s expected to be fully recovered by Week 1 next season.
Of course, the Niners gave up a lot to get Lance, so he should also get an opportunity to prove his worth once and for all.
But he’s been unimpressive and injury-prone to begin his career, so we wouldn’t be shocked if Mr. Irrelevant takes over the job full-time next season.
