Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is at the doorstep of MLB history, and Cincinnati Reds first baseman and fellow great Joey Votto is sure keeping tabs on Miggy’s pursuit of his next accomplishment: 3,000 hits.
Votto, like a good student, has analyzed Cabrera’s swing, perhaps one of the greatest right-handed swings in the history of the game, to get better.
He said that via Twitter.
“@MiguelCabrera I used to low-key creep your at-bats in my hotel room EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, after our games. I knew I had to study the best to beat the best. Good luck with your final steps to 3000. You are a joy to watch,” Votto tweeted, in a really classy move by one of the best players in Reds’ history, which is saying a lot.

Votto hasn’t done badly himself by studying Cabrera, slashing .300/.415/.518 for his career with 331 homers.
For fans, it’s always cool to see stars recognize and celebrate fellow stars.
Cabrera Is About To Enter An Exclusive Club
Cabrera earned his 2,996th hit on Tuesday against the New York Yankees, and from now on, all eyes will be on him as he gets closer to the milestone.
Not many hitters in MLB have had 3,000 hits, 600 doubles, 500 home runs, and 1,500 runs scored.
The list, in fact, consists only of Henry Aaron and Albert Pujols.
Cabrera already has the runs and homers, and will get to the doubles (he is at 599) and hits this year, barring an unexpected injury.
He has been a real joy to watch.
He has won two MVPs, a World Series, several batting crowns, and even the vaunted Triple Crown of hitting, back in 2012.
You could say that if he has something left to accomplish, it’s 3,000 hits.
He can do it this week.
