Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has never made his desire to be the best in the game a secret.
He has repeatedly said he wants to win the NBA Finals and be considered the greatest basketball player alive.
However, his team has always come up short and Embiid has faced his fair share of challenges.
But right now all of those challenges feel like they’re behind him because Embiid is playing out of this world basketball lately.
His name is constantly in conversations about MVP and there is a good chance he finally takes that coveted trophy this year.

When you look at Embiid’s numbers, it’s hard to argue against him being one of the top picks for MVP.
On Wednesday night, Embiid put up 25 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 assists.
He shot 13-of-19 from the field.
He also claimed his 32nd 30-point game, which is the most by any player this season.
Does that sound like MVP to you?
Can Philly Do It?
Embiid would be very happy to win MVP this year, there is no doubt about that.
But it’s undeniable that the thing he really wants to do this year is win the entire season and take his team to and through the NBA Finals for the first time.
More than ever before, that seems possible.
The team is as strong as it’s ever been, especially with the huge assistance from newcomer James Harden, who came to the 76ers in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
However, Embiid is definitely the centerpiece of the team and will remain the heart and soul of the squad.
For the first time in his career, he seems very comfortable with that role.
