The New York Mets left the Philadelphia Phillies and their fans at Citizens Bank Park completely shellshocked on Thursday night when they rallied for eight unanswered runs after having trailed 7-0.
Seven of those runs came in the top of the ninth inning.
In the end, the Phillies found themselves on the wrong end of a historic comeback.
Phillies manager Joe Girardi was understandably shocked and frustrated by the end of the game as well.
But he had an interesting little quote after the game that might just make Phillies fans lose their mind completely.
Girardi was quoted saying that the team played a good eight innings.
Girardi- Played a good 8 innings

Never Over ‘Till It’s Over
The truth is yes, the Phillies did play a solid eight innings.
After all, they led 7-1 heading into the ninth inning.
They all but had this one in the bag.
But Philadelphia sports fans are among the most passionate in all of sports, and hearing Girardi say something like that might just drive them up a wall.
Probably because the first eight innings made no difference.
It was the ninth inning that defined everything.
It was the seven-run rally by the Mets that decided the game.
In Phillies fans’ minds, hearing Girardi take the positives out of such a tough loss was probably the last thing they wanted to hear.
It’s hard to be super optimistic after such an implosion.
Most of the Phillies’ fans are probably feeling that way right now.
But Girardi is at least doing his best to be a “glass half full” type of manager.
You’d rather have that than somebody who acts like it’s doomsday.
We’ll see how the Phillies respond to such a shocking loss.
