No team in the NFL has gotten more attention and hype than the New York Jets heading toward the start of the 2023 NFL season, with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers turning this team into a legitimate title contender in the AFC.
Along with the addition of Rodgers, who is the first superstar under center in New York since Brett Favre, the Jets also added star running back Dalvin Cook recently, which only adds to the pressure and expectations of this franchise moving forward.
Although everything seems to be headed in the right direction in New York, the team got some bad news this week, with wide receiver Corey Davis unexpectedly announcing that he’ll be “stepping away” from football on his Instagram account, via Yahoo Sports NFL.

It is unclear whether Davis will return to football or not, as this message sounds a lot like a retirement announcement, but he seems to leave the door open for a return at some point down the road.
Before landing with the Jets in 2021, Davis made a name for himself while playing for the Tennessee Titans, who drafted him out of Western Michigan with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Although Davis isn’t one of the top-tier receivers on the Jets roster, he was expected to get some balls thrown his way from Rodgers while sharing wideout duties with Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Mecole Hardman.
Over the past two seasons, the wide receiver racked up 1,028 yards and six touchdowns on 66 receptions.
