Are the New York Jets making a push for Deebo Samuel?
That’s more speculation than reality because all Samuel asked for from the San Francisco 49ers was a trade.
He did not mention a preferred destination, giving San Francisco the option to ship him for the best deal possible.
The Jets need to boost their receiving corps after losing Jamison Crowder to the Buffalo Bills.
In return, they also have the draft capital that the 49ers would like to have for they own the fourth and tenth overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Despite the trade request, Niners general manager John Lynch said that he couldn’t imagine trading away a talented player like Samuel.
However, ESPN NFL Nation reporter Rich Cimini hears otherwise.
What I’m hearing: Despite Lynch saying he “can’t ever imagine” trading Deebo, I think they could for right price. #Jets still lurking … Ickey, Sauce and Jermaine Johnson getting loudest buzz at 4. All the speculation about JJ is true; he’s in mix. Jets seem open to any position

Cimini tweeted, “What I’m hearing: Despite Lynch saying he “can’t ever imagine” trading Deebo, I think they could for right price. #Jets still lurking … Ickey, Sauce and Jermaine Johnson getting loudest buzz at 4. All the speculation about JJ is true; he’s in mix. Jets seem open to any position.”
His tweet has two parts, with the first half about the potential Samuel trade.
After a breakout season, the 49ers wouldn’t trade him for anything less than a first-round pick.
The Jets have two, making them a likely trade partner that could meet their price.
The Jets Might Stick With The Fourth Pick
If a deal doesn’t happen, the team will use the fourth and tenth overall selections to build their roster.
Cimini revealed that the Jets are considering offensive lineman Ikem Okwonu, cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, and defensive end Jermaine Johnson for the fourth pick.
Each of these prospects will have their way of contributing to the Jets’ cause.
Therefore, general manager Joe Douglas will do much thinking before draft day.
