The New York Jets showed promise in 2022.
Despite missing the playoffs for the 12th straight season, they were at least in contention for a large part of the season.
One reason for their downfall was their quarterback play.
It became clear this past season that Zach Wilson is not the long-term answer in New York.
In nine games, Wilson threw for 1,688 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while completing only 54.5% of his passes.
The former second-overall pick had plenty of chances to show he was a starting NFL quarterback over the past two years but failed.
Now the Jets should be looking for a new signal-caller heading into 2023.
Head coach Robert Saleh even teased the fact that they could be looking for a veteran.
Saleh said they discussed their plan to bring in a veteran QB with Hackett but did not discuss specific names.

With new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett now in the fold, there is one quarterback that he has a connection with.
That is Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Hackett and Rodgers worked together from 2019-2021 in what were a few of the best seasons of Rodgers’ career.
It seems likely that both would welcome a reunion together in New York.
But, to do that the Jets would have to be willing to make a trade and take on a substantial cap number from Rodgers.
New York has offensive weapons in place and a very good defense, so this roster should pique Rodgers’ interest.
The addition of Hackett in New York should make the Jets one spot he considers.
So if the Jets are serious about bringing in a veteran quarterback, Rodgers should be at the top of their list.
