It’s been over two decades since the Dallas Cowboys last won a Super Bowl.
Despite being one of the wealthiest and most popular franchises in the sports industry, America’s Team has failed to live up to the standards more often than not, and those golden years are nothing but a distant dot in the past.
Even so, team owner Jerry Jones believes the Cowboys are quite close to putting an end to their title drought.
The controversial mogul claims his team has been quite close on several occasions recently, so he’s confident in their ability to go the distance pretty soon:
“I understand when you look back and say San Francisco and the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 25 years,” Jones said, per Jon Machota. “It is critical that we win. We work to win. And we’ve won a lot of football games. But it’s important to win a Super Bowl. I can go back and look and see how close we’ve been on about four or five occasions over the last several years, to have actually stepped out there and been on the field. I see how close it is that we’re not out there this weekend. It’s close.”

Notably, the Cowboys haven’t even made it to the NFC Conference Championship game since 1995, and they’ve missed the playoffs 16 times ever since, so I honestly cannot recall which occasions Jones is talking about.
When were they actually close?
Truth be told, he’s miserably, constantly, and blatantly failed to lead the team to success, constantly holding them back with his personnel-managing decisions and determination to control every single aspect of the team’s day-to-day operations.
The Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl as long as Jones’ reign as a decision-maker lasts, especially not with the way they’ve built their current roster.
However, they’ll continue to be one of the top-selling teams, and AT&T Stadium will forever be packed with faithful and wishful fans hoping their time will finally come after going through hell for over two decades, so it’s not like he’ll have any sort of incentive to change things any time soon.
