The New York Mets were fortunate enough to give star second baseman and reigning National League batting champion Jeff McNeil a four-year, $50 million contract extension.
McNeil is now locked up for the near future as the Mets look to build around him and compete for a World Series title.
The 30-year-old has been a rock for the Mets since his arrival in the big leagues in 2018.
But when the team held a press conference to announce the extension, McNeil refused to take all the credit.
Instead, he made a touching statement, thanking his wife Tatiana for her support over the years, acknowledging that it hasn’t been an easy road and referring to her as his rock.

When a baseball player works incredibly hard and is ultimately rewarded with something such as this, his work ethic is to be commended.
However, nobody does it alone, and McNeil was fortunate enough to have the full support of his wife as he battled through the minor leagues and ultimately got the chance to live out his dream when he was called up by the Mets.
Ultimately, it’s bigger than baseball, and those who support the players throughout their journey deserve some credit as well.
Wholesome moments like these are what makes sports so great.
The competition is always there, but you can’t take away what truly makes it so great.
No athlete’s journey is ever a solo journey.
McNeil was, and still is lucky enough to have had the support of his wife throughout his baseball journey.
