Hustle is paramount in the game of baseball.
Without it, a player doesn’t stand a chance.
But there’s a reason that heart and hustle go hand in hand.
Jean Segura put his hustle on full display on Thursday night.
With the Philadelphia Phillies ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning, infielder Johan Camargo popped out to second baseman Gavin Lux.
Segura was on third base.
In most cases, a runner would not tag up on a pop up to second.
However, Segura chose to take a gamble and caught the Dodgers’ defense napping.
MLB tweeted a video of the moment, showing just how hard Segura was running as he completely bamboozled the Dodgers.

Heart And Hustle
Hustle is something that always wins the day in Major League Baseball.
Now, is it a smart play to tag up on a popup to the second baseman?
No, probably not.
But if it works out, you don’t question it.
Segura chose to gamble, and it paid off.
Sometimes it works for you.
Other times it doesn’t.
But it worked in this case, and again, if it works, it should not be questioned.
Segura was chugging all the way from third base and pulled off quite an impressive feat, adding an extra run on the board for the Phillies as they took the opener from the Dodgers by a final of 9-7.
Hustle can win you some games, even if the play isn’t one that would normally take place in a baseball game.
What matters is that Segura hustled, and it paid off.
Segura should be praised for putting in that extra work to grind out another run for the Phillies.
