With free agency resuming, we finally have a sense of normalcy in baseball.

The lockout is finally over, and teams are spending money and making trades in an effort to finalize their rosters before the start of the season.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t go ahead and look forward to free agency next year, as there are plenty of notable players that will soon hit the market.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter JD Martinez is set to be one of those big names.

But he doesn’t appear to want to leave the Red Sox.

In fact, he hopes to play out the remaining days of his career in Boston.

JD Martinez, an impending free agent, says he wants to finish his career in Boston. Says he has expressed it to the team.

A Good Match

Martinez was a good get for the Red Sox back in 2018 and was a key contributor to their World Series championship team.

He also played a major role in the Red Sox’s turnaround last season as the team went from last place in 2020 to a Wild Card team in 2021 that went all the way to the ALCS.

Now more than ever, it’s looking like that deal paid off for Boston.

And it’s always good to see players happy with their current situations.

When a player is happy, he’s usually got a little extra motivation to go out and play each day, and Martinez certainly seems like he enjoys playing in Boston.

He did have an opt-out clause after 2021 but chose not to exercise it and continue playing in Boston.

We’ll see if the Red Sox have similar plans in mind.

It would be a surprise if they didn’t want to keep Martinez after everything he’s done for the organization.

But 2022 is his contract year, and we’ll see what Boston decides.
