The Phoenix Suns are trying to build a championship contender the ‘fast’ and ‘easy’ way, if that even exists.
Putting together a mix of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal should be more than enough to make them a contender, but there are still some serious depth issues.
Even so, former NBA player Jay Williams thinks they have what it takes to go the distance and win an NBA championship, as they’re three of the most prolific and efficient scorers in the game.
However, Williams also says that it’ll have a lot to do with whether coach Frank Vogel can bring out the best of Deandre Ayton or not.

Williams believes Ayton needs to buy into that new system in order to be willing to do all the dirty work, whether it’s dominating the defensive glass, setting picks, or protecting the rim.
Notably, Ayton already proved that he could be the defensive anchor on a championship-caliber team, but his fractured relationship with coach Monty Williams made his effort — or lack thereof — on the court seem quite questionable, to say the least.
Moreover, others believe Ayton has no motivation to play at the highest level now that he’s gotten that big contract, which could obviously be another factor and reason for concern.
The Suns are great on paper, but this is a team sport, and they — literally — have no bench right now, and they’ll have a tough time filling that roster with that little financial flexibility, not to mention the fact that their star players have also missed a lot of time with injuries lately.
