Jason Kidd Comments On The Mavericks’ Future

Jason Kidd has spent one season as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

If history is any indication, that season is just about over.

His team is now down 3-0 against the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

No team has ever come back from such a deficit and it goes without saying that Dallas is on the ropes and nearly out of the playoffs.

In fact, it looks like Kidd knows that, based on the way he was talking about the team after the game.

Jason Kidd: “This is just the beginning of our journey. … It’s cool to go through this. This isn’t the end, this is just the beginning.”

Speaking to the press following another loss, Kidd said, “This is just the beginning of our journey. It’s cool to go through this. This isn’t the end, this is just the beginning.”

Those are kind, hopeful words – but they definitely don’t sound like the words from someone who thinks things can turn around.

Better Luck Next Year

The Mavericks definitely did better than expected this year.

When Kidd came on, he had a lot to do and many things to tweak and perfect for Dallas.

Sure enough, he did a lot of it and the squad ended the season in fourth place in the West.

He helped Luka Doncic become a better player, he brought up many of the supporting stars, and he turned around their weak defense.

All in all, the entire team should be proud of their progress.

Yet, there is still much to be done.

The team still heavily depends on Doncic and he doesn’t get nearly enough help when he needs it.

There are many fans who feel the Mavericks are just one or two pieces away from being truly great and ready for the Finals.

This may be only the beginning for the Mavs but it’s quite a good start.
