The 2-11 Jacksonville Jaguars should not be in the national spotlight on a daily basis.
They are a young, rebuilding team that expects to lose a lot in 2021.
But hiring Urban Meyer led to a disaster that was finally brought to an end early Thursday morning.
While many fans were asleep, Meyer was officially fired as enough was enough for owner Shad Khan.
After less than one year in Jacksonville, Urban Meyer is out as the Jaguars’ head coach, sources tell ESPN.

Meyer was already given a long leash and the latest drama surrounding him could have led to litigation against the organization itself.
The Final Straw
Meyer had already provided Khan with a long list of reasons to be fired during his first year on the job.

Giving Tim Tebow a job as a tight end was only the beginning and seems minor compared to what happened once the actual season began.
The video of him being danced on by a woman at an Ohio bar was embarrassing enough.
Yet Meyer apologized and everyone moved on.
But in the midst of all the reports coming out about him being awful to work with, the latest one did him in.

That would be the report that Meyer kicked former kicker Josh Lambo during a practice.
A coach cannot kick a player.
That is not something that should have to be explained to anyone.
This brings up the idea of inappropriate workplace behavior and Khan had to let the coach go, even if he is owed tens of millions of dollars.
Sensing Jaguars’ lawyers are checking the ‘with cause’ language in Urban Meyer’s contract..

Everyone in the organization routinely had to answer for Meyer’s behavior.
That is inexcusable for a head coach, who is supposed to be the leader and face of an organization.
Thus, Meyer is out and while this was not what the Jaguars had in mind, it is better to cut him loose now rather than face a full mutiny from players and coaches once the season is over.
