With the NFL Draft long behind us and teams kicking off minicamp training, it looks most teams are set at quarterback.
However, that hasn’t stopped former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton from claiming he’s still starting quarterback material.
It would be difficult to prove to any team who might want a quarterback that he’s still worthy to be a starter.
But in his mind, he’s able to accomplish this feat one more time.
Does that make him crazy to believe this, or is he really capable of being a starting quarterback again?
Newton’s 2021 Season Leaves Doubts He’s Worth Playing As A Starter
When Newton came back to Carolina in 2021, he picked up right where he left off.
However, that isn’t a good thing, as he left Carolina in 2020 after losing two games before suffering a season-ending injury.
Starting five games in 2021, Newton lost all five games.
Since yelling "I'm Back."
0-5 in five starts!

Those games don’t give teams any reason to place confidence in him as a starting quarterback.
So does that mean Newton is crazy for believing he’s still a starting quarterback?
When examining those facts, it’s easy to say he’s crazy for thinking he can be a starting quarterback.
However, it seems his failures in the NFL stem from him playing with the Panthers.
So could him going to another team give him a chance to be a successful starter?
It’s All About The Team Around Cam And Him Working With Them
Newton hasn’t been the same as a quarterback with the Panthers since going to Super Bowl 50 with them.
However, in his short time with the New England Patriots, he showed some flashes of success.
But he also showed some mental errors that cost him games with the Patriots.
Cam Newton just fumbled the ball near endzone with 00:26 on the clock and lost the game for the Patriots while the Pats were trailling 21-24.

Had he trusted his teammates, they could have won some of those close games they lost.
He was the playmaker in Carolina for so long that he felt he still has to be a playmaker in every game.
However, that mindset is his downfall as an NFL player.
Had he worked with his teammates in New England, he might still be a starting quarterback there.
Newton Will Never Be Starting Material Until He Matures
While Newton is a veteran quarterback, his attitude and decision-making skills aren’t the best.
It is those things holding him back from being the starting quarterback on any NFL team for 2022.
Had he showed more maturity during his career, maybe he wouldn’t be without a team.
However, he choose to act out online and in press conferences during his career.
He also felt he was the only player that could win the game.
But those decisions and actions are biting him now as an NFL player.
With him blaming now his failures on not knowing his team’s offense, it’s hard to have confidence in him.
However, he’s now taking ownership of those shortcomings.
But can he turn things around in his football life to improve his football learning ability?
If he can, with him at least admitting his failures, then maybe there can be some hope for Newton being a starting quarterback again.
