Jeff Bezos arrives at the Statue Of Liberty Museum

As the owner of Amazon, Jeff Bezos has an extremely high net worth.

His net worth is around $190.4 billion and continues to climb.

Although he has since stepped away from running Amazon, his wealth continues to accumulate.

Considering how much his net worth is, you may wonder how much he manages to make in a day.

Here’s what you need to know about how much Jeff Bezos makes in a day.

How Much Does Jeff Bezos Make In A Day?

Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos makes around $205 million a day.

That amount comes from a series of calculations based on how much he earns according to his salary and his increase in net worth.

His salary is modest compared to other billionaires.

He earns $81,840 as his salary.

It was how much he earned in 1998 and has remained unchanged since then.

This, coupled with the compensation he receives elsewhere, brings his total amount to $1,681,840.

You can then break that down into smaller numbers.

He earns $140,153 a month.

That can then break down into weeks which is $32,343.

You can then derive how much he earns in a day which is $4,608.

We can even break this number down further by the minute.

He earns $3.20 every minute.

That’s based on his compensation alone.

When adding his growing net worth, you get even higher numbers.

In 2020, Jeff Bezos’s net worth increased by around $75 billion.

With that in mind, you can then do the math to estimate how much he earns in a day with the new figures.

It comes out to $6.25 billion a month.

This then breaks down to $1.44 billion a week.

To find out the day, you then divide it further and come to $205 million a day.

That ends up becoming $142,667 a minute.

With this net worth continuing to increase, the amount that he earns every day also increases.

Where Does Jeff Bezos Earn His Money?

Forbes magazine with Jeff Bezos

While Jeff Bezos is best known for his involvement with Amazon, it isn’t the only source through which he receives his wealth.

Here are some of the ways that Jeff Bezos earns his money.

1. Amazon

Amazon Building

The bulk of Bezos’s income comes from Amazon.

He’s the founder of Amazon which began as a book shop.

Its headquarters was in Bezos’s garage with a potbelly stove.

Bezos wanted to enter this particular market because he was curious about the growing internet.

He learned that the use of the internet was growing by $2,300 annually in the mid-1990s.

He saw Amazon as a potential contender.

He launched Amazon.com as a book-selling business.

Books weren’t the only product that he’d sell either.

As Amazon grew, he started to offer other products as well.

The business started with him, his wife, and two other programmers.

He also invested $10,000 of his own into the company at the time.

Since he was coming from a job on Wall Street, many thought he was foolish for starting this type of business.

However, within the first month after Amazon launched in 1995, they ended up selling a book to every state in the country.

They even managed to reach 45 other countries.

Seeing the interest and trajectory for the company, Bezos estimated that the company would see $74 million in sales by 2000.

By 1999, they had already made $1.64 billion in sales.

He then pitched the business to investors and opted for seed funding.

Before then, he had also relied on investments from his parents.

They had used much of their life savings to finance his dream.

Each investor invested around $50,000 for a 1% share.

Today, those investments are worth around $16.71 billion.

That’s a return of 334,200 times if those initial investors still held onto their investments to this day.

Amazon would later go public and allow more investors to fund the online retailer.

It was also one of the few startups that managed to survive through the dot-com bust.

Several other companies, including Intel, saw its value decrease by 80%.

By 2001, Amazon was boasting sales of more than $3 billion.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon became even wealthier.

Its stocks rose by 450% between the years 2016 and 2021.

During the pandemic, its stocks rose by 75%.

This is because many people were relying on online retailers to get some of their essentials and other products instead of going to physical stores.

Bezos sold some of his shares which earned him a great deal of money, too.

He’s believed to own 11% of Amazon which makes the retailer his primary source of income.

During Amazon’s annual meeting in 2021, Bezos revealed that he owns 70 million shares.

2. Investments In Google

Bezos also chose to invest early in Google back in 1998.

At that time, he invested at least $250,000.

That amount alone would be worth billions of dollars today.

With Google continuing to be the ultimate titan on the internet, its value will only likely continue to grow.

If Bezos continues to hold onto his initial investments, then he could easily see them become more valuable over the next few years.

3. The Washington Post

THE WASHINGTON POST

In 2013, Bezos also bought The Washington Post.

It cost him $250 million.

Once he started to transition it into an online publication as well as an in-print publication, its traffic exploded.

In 2015, the newspaper managed to exceed even The New York Times in terms of its traffic.

This was the first time The Post had ever been able to exceed The Times.

It was on account of their web viewers that they managed to surpass The Times.

The Washington Post uses a subscription model for its articles.

Although people can read a few articles for free, the bulk of their articles are behind a paywall.

Since The Post covers everything from politics to pop culture, it appeals to many different audience members.

With a wide audience, more people are willing to pay for the subscription service to read the news.

Bezos receives a portion of those payments since he owns The Post.

4. Amazon Prime

One aspect of Amazon that also adds to Bezos’s wealth is Amazon Prime.

He started Prime in 2013 and also introduced Amazon Prime Air.

The goal was to use drones to deliver packages to various homes and businesses across the country.

It was Amazon Prime, however, that also added to Bezos’s wealth.

Amazon Prime is another subscription service.

Those who have an Amazon account can pay a monthly or yearly fee to use it.

Their Prime account comes with several benefits like free shipping and access to movies and TV shows.

It also makes them qualify for special discounts on certain products.

Although Bezos makes money from any product that’s sold on Amazon, he also makes a lot of his money through his subscription service.

5. Real Estate

Besides investing in various tech businesses and robotics, Bezos has also opted for more traditional forms of investment.

He owns several homes throughout the country.

He’s renovated a large number of them as well.

His Corn Ranch in Texas, for example, is now the site of his Blue Origin space company.

It’s now the test site for vertical-landing manned rockets.

He also owns homes on both the east coast and the west coast.

One example is his 10,000 square-foot home in the Century Tower located in Manhattan.

At the time, it cost him less than $10 million.

Since he’s moved in, however, there’s been a lot of interest in the Century Tower.

Its property values have increased substantially.

Most apartments in the tower now sell for $2,000 to $3,000 per square foot.

That’s increased the prices of the apartments by a great deal.

If he ever decides to sell his apartment in the Century Tower, then he’ll likely do so at a significant profit.

On the west side of the country, he has a lakeside home in Washington state.

He spent a good amount of money to renovate the home and increase its square footage to 30,000.

The home originally sold for $28 million.

Amazon, itself, also invests in real estate.

It bought the South Lake Union headquarters in Seattle in 2012.

It cost the company $1.5 billion at the time.

Amazon became the city’s largest commercial property owner.

That equated to having almost two million square feet of office space for their employees.

It spans several buildings.

A total of 100,000 square feet is for retail space alone.

In 2017, Seattle reported that Amazon’s ownership of this much space made it have more than the other 40 largest employers combined.

Real estate is an older form of investing, but it can pay off.

With several homes and commercial properties in valuable areas, Bezos’s net worth only increases.

6. Tech Investments

Twitter is an online social networking and microblogging service that enables users to send and read tweets

Besides Google, Bezos also has several other investments in the technology sector.

He tends to invest in companies that involve themselves with the media or in communications.

For example, he’s invested in Twitter.

He’s also invested in several media companies like Business Insider, Nextdoor, and Zocdoc.

With this focus on technology that connects people, he likely stands to gain sizable profits from his investments.

The future will likely see people more connected than ever.

By investing early in these businesses, Bezos ensures future wealth for himself as well.

Bezos is also interested in cloud services.

He sees it as something that will become even more powerful and useful in the future.

This is why Amazon has been investing in its own cloud technology.

That hasn’t kept him from investing in other cloud-based businesses either, however.

In particular, Bezos has investments in Workday.

It’s a company that supplies human resources in the cloud.

Through his investment and the interest generated by his involvement, Workday was able to go public.

It gained more than $684 million in its initial offering.

Since he was an early investor, Bezos likely earned a good amount of money on that investment, too.

7. Transportation Investments

A woman hand holding Uber app

Although Bezos prefers to invest in technology, he also has a diverse portfolio.

One of the other areas he’s invested in is transportation.

In particular, he’s invested in Uber.

As a rideshare company, Uber has seen a lot of use since its inception.

In particular, it played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With some public transport scaled down, many relied on Uber drivers to get where they needed to go.

Another branch of Uber, Uber Eats, also helped secure its place in the homes of its users.

As a food delivery service, Uber Eats brought food from restaurants to the doors of regular homeowners.

It kept them safe and allowed restaurants to earn some money when they weren’t able to host diners indoors.

Bezos’s investment in Uber means that he believes the company will continue to remain profitable.

However, with the recent fluctuating status and ongoing legal battles over Uber employment, there might be some volatility with the investment.

8. Retail

Although many of his investments involve technologies and businesses of the future, he also has a few investments in old-school retail spaces.

In particular, he’s invested in a company called Glassybaby.

It’s a business that makes glass-blown holders for candles and other items.

Even this modest investment likely wasn’t done without Bezos thinking that Glassybaby could become extremely profitable.

It also goes to show that Bezos has no problem diversifying his portfolio with various types of businesses.

9. Blue Origin

Blue Origin

One of Bezos’s dreams was to make it to space.

To make that dream come true, he founded Blue Origin.

It’s a commercial space program designed to take paying customers up into space.

He was among the first to take the flight into space and make history.

His dreams of space haven’t ended there, however.

Since stepping away from the actual running of Amazon, he’s focused a lot of time and money on Blue Origin instead.

Every year, he invests $1 billion of his money in Blue Origin.

Having made one of the first reusable rockets, Bezos will likely continue to invest in space exploration and commercialization.

10. Twitch

One final way that Bezos earns money is through Twitch.

Twitch is a game streaming platform that’s owned by Amazon.

Gamers are able to stream their games for audiences.

Those audience members can subscribe to their stream to ensure they never miss when they’re online and for other perks.

Ads also feature on the platform which earns Amazon money.

Through subscriptions and ads, Bezos earns additional money through Twitch.

Although Amazon doesn’t post the revenue that Twitch makes, Twitch does post some of the revenue that its top streamers have made in the past.

That amount can climb to millions of dollars.

If the streamers are earning that much, then the company is earning something similar to it.

With game streaming being so popular, Twitch is likely going to remain popular for some time.

It also means Bezos will continue to have a reliable revenue stream from this source.

Conclusion

Bezos makes a considerable amount of money every day.

Through his own business ventures and investments, his net worth continues to grow.

As such, the amount that he makes every day also grows.

By following a similar business plan and investing wisely, others may be able to follow a similar path to success.
