The NFL 2022 regular season draws closer every day, and the Cleveland Browns are heading into a pickle right before the season starts.
That pickle is the fact Jacoby Brissett will likely be their starting quarterback for 2022.
However, the number of games he could start is unknown.
This all follows the looming suspension of current starter Deshaun Watson for the 2022 NFL season.
With suspension looming, how many games will they give Deshaun Watson?..
4 games?
6 games?
8 games?— TJ Litweiler (@romello_jordan) June 6, 2022
While the team still has Baker Mayfield, it is unlikely he will play since the Browns wanted to replace him with Watson.
That now leaves the keys to this beat up clunker of a team to Brissett.
So just how far can he take the team and will it end in disaster for Cleveland?
Brissett Can Get Wins But Is Not A Playoff Caliber Quarterback
During his time as a starter in Indianapolis, Brissett went 11-19.
However, his first season as the day one starting quarterback for the Colts saw him go 7-8 for the season.
His first season as a starting quarterback filling in for an injured Andrew Luck didn’t go well.
But he did better when he took over after Luck retired in 2019.
While there was an improvement, the Colts didn’t see him as a playoff caliber quarterback.
With his history of being a below-average winning quarterback, it doesn’t look good for the Browns.
However, he can at least win some games, keeping the Browns from being the worst team in football for 2022.
But that’s not what fans want, as they demand for a playoff team in Cleveland after so many years of missing the playoffs.
Should Cleveland Patch Things Up With Baker Mayfield?
One thing about Mayfield is he has gotten Cleveland to the playoffs before.
However, that was when he had a stacked receiver corps and a great running game.

So would mending things with the upset quarterback really be worth the trouble?
In reality, they wouldn’t be much better off with Mayfield starting over Brissett.
The reason for this is that Brissett can perform without a huge talent pool around him.
Mayfield has failed when he was without his top receivers during the 2021 NFL season.
However, some fans of his will believe he’s the man who can lead the team to victory.
But if they compare him to other quarterbacks in the league on a per game level, they would see he’s not good.
While Mayfield took the Browns to the playoffs, his defense is the real reason they made it there.
Fans who think Mayfield could be the answer for 2022 with Watson out are dead wrong with that idea.
