MLB has been around for roughly 150 years.
There have been recent expansions in 1998, 1993, and several in the sixties and seventies.
However, some of the franchises have been around for decades, even for a century in some cases (and more).
In total, 16 MLB organizations were born at least 100 years ago.
The vast majority of them have won at least three World Series throughout history, except for two.

The Cleveland Guardians have won two World Series, the same number as the Philadelphia Phillies.
They both have had dominating periods but they haven’t always yielded World Series titles.
The Guardians, previously Cleveland Indians, have been competing since 1901 when they were the Cleveland Blues.
Then they were Cleveland Naps for a while and, since 1915, the Indians until changing their name in 2022.
They won the Fall Classic in 1920 and 1948.
Cleveland was a powerhouse in the mid-to-late 1990s and then again in the second half of the 2010s.
They still haven’t won since 1948, though.
The Phillies also have two titles, in 1980 and 2008.
They started off as the Philadelphia Quakers in 1883 (!) and then became the Phillies in 1890.
They were very competitive from 1976 to 1983, and then in the late-2000s.
They came close to a title last year but fell to the Houston Astros.
These two franchises are in really good shape to compete in 2023.
Will they add that elusive third title this year?
We are about to find out.
They have different approaches and styles: the Phils have a big payroll and are not afraid to spend, while the Guards have built from within with great success.
Both are very solid, contending squads who will take another shot at the title.
