Fans of the Chicago Cubs got some bad news when it was revealed that catcher Willson Contreras had rejected the team’s qualifying offer and would be entering the free agent pool.
Contreras, one of the last holdovers from the Cubs’ 2016 World Series team, figures to be one of the most sought-after free agents.
The Cubs are not expected to retain him.
And so, Cubs fans are feeling all the emotions right now, knowing that a fan favorite has likely played his last game in a Chicago uniform.
To show how Cubs fans are feeling, Barstool Chicago posted a clip from the film “Castaway” where Chuck Noland has gone overboard and his searching for his volleyball that he calls “Wilson,” expressing his feelings of sorrow.

“I’m Sorry, Wilson!”
Cubs fans are certainly feeling it right now.
This scene from Castaway is a common tearjerker, but has turned into a hilarious meme given the circumstances.
Fans of the Cubs are finally realizing that the inevitable is upon them, and that Contreras has more than likely played his final game in Cubbie Blue.
This means that Jason Heyward is now the last holdover from the Cubs’ 2016 title run, and Heyward has been somewhat of a disappointment for the Cubs since signing with them in 2015.
So now, Cubs fans will express their feelings of sorrow over the team losing a fan favorite and key member of their 2016 team.
The question now is whether the Cubs will sign a catcher to replace the departed Contreras.
