The Dallas Cowboys haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 1996.
Even so, they continue to be one of the most popular and valuable sports franchises on Earth, regardless of their never-ending shortcomings, blunders, and heartbreaking losses.
The Cowboys haven’t even been a perennial playoff team over this nearly three decades of championship drought.
Jerry Jones has the team in a chokehold, making all decisions based on whether he likes a player/coach as a person or not.
Needless to say, that hasn’t been much of a winning formula, yet that’s not likely to change any time soon.
Even so, ESPN and all major networks always have the need to address the Cowboys.
They know a popular franchise like that will draw viewership, so they always try and sneak them in on most conversations.
That happened again on Tuesday’s edition of First Take when they listed the top six Super Bowl contenders for next season, ranking the Cowboys at six.
That’s why former NFL and college coach Herm Edwards just couldn’t take it anymore and called out the network on live TV for always having to go the extra mile to talk about a team that’s not even that good:
“We went all the way from one, not to five, but to six. Why?” Edwards asked. “Cause there’s the Cowboys. We just have to talk about the Cowboys! They couldn’t make the top-five, but they got to six! And now we’re gonna talk about the top six teams. Are you kidding me?! Really? It’s always about the Cowboys! We have to talk about these guys all the time!”
“Why we have the Cowboys even in the conversation at six, why didn’t we just go seven? Talk about the Chargers too? We had to stop at six, we had to talk about the Cowboys!” Edwards continued. “We got the Cowboys, we gotta talk about the Cowboys! I’m tired of the Cowboys!”

Edwards ranted for nearly two minutes before marching off the set in one of the most hilarious viral clips the football world will ever see.
But truth be told, he’s actually got a valid point.
I mean, yes, they call it America’s Team for a reason, and they will always be a subject of debate.
But maybe, just maybe, we should wait until they actually earn the right to be discussed as a contending team before bringing them in on every conversation.
