The grandma in a cage meme has been spreading like wildfire, with people constantly tweeting or posting “not letting my grandma out of the cage until” and filling in the blank on something that has yet to happen.
One person on Twitter, who appears to be a big fan of the Cleveland Guardians, joined in on the fun earlier this month, tweeting the picture of the grandma in the cage and saying he wouldn’t let her out of the cage until the Guardians finally gave their star third baseman Jose Ramirez a contract extension.
Just a few days later, the Guardians extended Ramirez for five years and $124 million.
Yesterday, the Guardians responded to this man’s tweet, ordering him to release his grandma immediately.
LET HER OUT RIGHT NOW, STEPHEN! https://t.co/heiajZAqaC

Let Grandma Go!
This is a great response to a hilarious meme that is gaining traction all over the internet.
But Stephen, the man responsible for the original tweet, now has orders from the Guardians themselves to release his grandma.
Hopefully by now, he’s released her from her confinement in the cage.
But he’s gotten his wish.
Ramirez is staying in Cleveland for another five years.
Stephen, let grandma go free!
The Guardians had the perfect response to this meme.
They gave Stephen his wish and Ramirez is staying put for the next five years.
But maybe that was the perfect motivator for the Guardians to go ahead and extend Ramirez.
Perhaps they pulled off the extension in an effort to save Stephen’s grandma from the cage.
We don’t know for certain if he has officially let his grandma out of the cage.
At this point, we can only hope that he has now that the Guardians have granted his wish.
