The Detroit Lions and their fans are optimistic about this upcoming season after finishing the 2022 campaign with a flurry.
They started the campaign 1-6, only to win eight of their last 10 games and nearly come away with a playoff spot.
Some are picking Detroit to finish first in the NFC North and perhaps make some noise in the playoffs in 2023, but there is a cold hard reality staring them in the face.
They haven’t won a playoff game since the 1991 season, and they hold the current longest streak of the most consecutive seasons without a postseason victory.

The Lions have a solid veteran quarterback in Jared Goff, and they have two stud wide receivers in the up-and-coming Amon-Ra St. Brown and veteran Marvin Jones Jr.
On the defensive side of the football, they boast defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson, who was the runner-up in the Defensive Rookie of the Year balloting with 9.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback hits in 2022.
It will also help Detroit that their division just isn’t that strong.
The Green Bay Packers traded away quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets and were mediocre to begin with, while the Chicago Bears have some promising young talent but probably won’t be world-beaters.
Other than the NFC East, the conference as a whole is pretty shallow, and if the Lions finish second in the division behind the Minnesota Vikings, who finished first last season, that lack of depth could help them make the playoffs and perhaps finally get a win there.
