Last season, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was rushed to the hospital after their Week 3 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
At that moment, Chiefs fans braced for the worst if he announced an indefinite leave from coaching.
But he was back at work days after that incident, and the Chiefs have continued their tenure as one of the league’s legitimate contenders.
It may be difficult for the Chiefs to find success without their longtime mentor.
After all, he continues to win games regardless of the quarterback.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman tweeted, “Andy Reid is a ridiculously good coach no matter who’s his QB. That’s what separate him from a Bill Belichick.”
Kleiman included a graphic from NBC’s Sunday Night Football showing the regular season records of Donovan McNabb, Alex Smith, and Patrick Mahomes under Reid.
McNabb played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2009, compiling a 92-49-1 record.
Meanwhile, Smith had a 50-26 mark with Reid, who transferred to the Chiefs in 2013.
Finally, Mahomes has been the team’s full-time starting quarterback since 2018, and he has a 52-14 mark with Reid.
Reid followed Don Shula to become the second head coach in NFL history to have at least 50 wins with three starting quarterbacks.
Reid Has Provided Stability For The Chiefs
To elaborate on Kleiman’s comparison, Belichick did have an 11-5 record in 2008 with Matt Cassel as their starter.
However, he only had seven wins in 2020 with former MVP Cam Newton.
He did have ten wins with then-rookie Mac Jones last season, but they are struggling early in 2022 with a 1-3 slate.
In contrast, the Chiefs are currently at 3-1 after a road victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Reid only has one season with fewer than ten wins since he became the Chiefs’ head coach.
However, he is yet to finish with a losing record with Kansas City and has led the squad to six consecutive AFC West division titles.
