The San Francisco Giants are a storied franchise with a ton of great teams to back up such a legacy.

After all, they have the most National League pennants of all time.

But there was a little something special that took place for the Giants on Tuesday night during their game against the San Diego Padres.

Back in 2020, San Francisco promoted Alyssa Nakken to their big-league coaching staff, making her the first ever female coach in Major League history.

But last night, the 31-year-old assistant coach made some more history, taking over as the first base coach, which made her the first ever woman to coach on the field in Major League history.

Alyssa Nakken took over as first-base coach for the Giants tonight, becoming the first woman ever to coach on field in MLB. 🙌

Baseball History

This is a major step forward for baseball and it’s good to see the game expanding its horizons.

It’s nice to see women slowly start to break into coaching roles throughout baseball and ultimately make some history in the process.

Nakken being on the field to coach during last night’s game is a major boost for not just the Giants and baseball, but for women as well, as more women are soon to follow in Nakken’s footsteps.

We’ve already seen Rachel Balkovec slide into a manager’s role in the minors, making her the first female manager in the game’s history.

More are certainly on the way.

But it’s great for the game to take such a massive step forward in terms of inclusion and equality.

More women sliding into coaching roles will only help grow the game even further.

Nakken should be praised for pioneering the first generation of women coaching in the game of baseball.

New ground has been broken, and baseball can only grow from here.
