In a game in which he looked dominant, but didn’t quite have the results to show for it, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole made some franchise history.
The Yankees lost 6-4 to the Baltimore Orioles, and Cole somehow allowed five earned runs.
But he also didn’t walk anybody and struck out 11 O’s hitters.
Many people say that the true indicator to determine a pitcher’s dominance is his BB/K ratio, and Cole’s is elite.
Logging a game with no walks and at least 10 punchouts is something that only the truly talented pitchers do often.
“Tonight was Gerrit Cole’s seventh start as a Yankee with 10+ strikeouts and zero walks. That’s tied with Mike Mussina for the most such starts in #Yankees franchise history. Pretty remarkable Cole already tied that franchise record in just 51 G with New York,” SI.com’s Max Goodman tweeted.

He Tied The Record At An Impressive Rate
Mussina played eight seasons with the Yankees: Cole has just two (one of them lasted just 60 games) and the first month-and-a-half of the 2022 campaign.
It’s truly amazing how he already tied a franchise record held by a pitcher who played more than double of the seasons he has been with the Yankees.
But Cole is known for his dominant ways.
For the season, the right-hander has a 3.31 ERA and a much better 2.97 Fielding Independent Pitching, or FIP.
He has given away just 12 walks, and has struck out 62 hitters.
Cole is determined to go out there and win the American League Cy Young award he deserved in 2021, when Robbie Ray took home the honor.
If he keeps limiting free passes and piling up the strikeouts, he will be in a position to do that.
