The Seattle Seahawks were expected to lose their 2022 season opener against the Denver Broncos for several reasons.
First, the Broncos traded for former Seahawks starter Russell Wilson in the offseason, thinking he was the missing piece to a championship team.
Likewise, Denver has overflowing talent on offense, starting with Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon III in the backfield.
They also have Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and KJ Hamler as wide receivers.
The Broncos also have stars on defense like Bradley Chubb, Randy Gregory, Pat Surtain II, and Justin Simmons.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks named Geno Smith, Wilson’s backup from last season, as their starter over Drew Lock.
Smith had a chance to start for Seattle when Wilson needed surgery for his finger injury.
He delivered mixed results in those games.
While the odds were seemingly against them, the Seahawks escaped with a 17-16 victory during their Monday Night Football encounter.
Smith finished with 23 completions out of 28 attempts for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
The former West Virginia standout added 14 rushing yards on six carries.
He clapped back at those who predicted a loss for them by saying, “They wrote me off, but I ain’t write back, though. That’s the problem, I ain’t write back. Let’s go!”

Team Effort For The Seahawks
Other players delivered solid performances that led to victory.
Rashaad Penny had 60 rushing yards, while Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson combined for 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cody Barton also had a great start with eight tackles and a sack.
Smith and the Seahawks will have an opportunity to go 2-0 with a win over the division rival San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
However, there’s a chance that safety Jamal Adams won’t be available after injuring his left quad.
