3 Free Agents The Miami Dolphins Should Pursue In 2021

The Miami Dolphins went an impressive 10-6 during the 2020 season.

Despite the record, they did not qualify for the playoffs.

Many believe the offense left them down since the Dolphins’ defense under Coach Brian Flores was getting the job done in 2020.

In terms of the offense, Miami has said that Tua Tagovailoa is their man at quarterback; he will be the starter in 2021.

We have all heard the Deshaun Watson rumors; it is possible the Dolphins could make that trade which would ultimately send Tua to Houston.

For the purposes of our free agent analysis, we will assume that Tua will remain the starter and Deshaun Watson will play elsewhere.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at three free agents the Miami Dolphins should be pursuing in the 2021 offseason.

They were selected with the express purpose of giving Tua weapons to make the big step forward in 2021.

1. Allen Robinson – Wide Receiver (Chicago Bears)

The Bears had their share of offensive issues in 2020, shifting quarterbacks and general struggles.

However, there was a bright spot, and that was wide receiver Allen Robinson.

He finished 2020 as a 16 game starter.

Robinson had 102 receptions for 1,250 yards and 6 touchdowns.

It is still possible that the Bears might put the franchise tag on him, but since they have not yet, he is still technically available.

Robinson is only 27 years old and has a lot of great football ahead of him; he managed a good performance in 2020 with a very mediocre team.

He is one of the building blocks the Dolphins need to establish a potent offense.

2. Aaron Jones – Running Back (Green Bay Packers)

Jones finished out his four year rookie contract with the Packers in grand style.

He was selected to his first ever Pro Bowl.

Jones rushed for 1,104 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2020.

He added 126 yards and a touchdown in the playoff run.

Jones is a sturdy back, something the Dolphins desperately need.

There is also reporting that suggests that both he and the Dolphins are interested in working together so this is a very realistic possibility.

3. Corey Lindsey – Center (Green Bay Packers)

The Dolphins had offensive line issues in 2020.

While Michael Deiter is the center of record right now for the Dolphins, Coach Flores could definitely be searching for an upgrade.

Yes, he could pursue that upgrade via the NFL Draft, but Corey Lindsey is an excellent candidate also.

Lindsey started 13 games in 2020.

He allowed only sack and played cleanly which means no false starts or holding penalties.

Lindsey believes he probably will not be re-signed by the Packers.

On February 25, he told SiriusXM NFL radio:

“We’re not closing the door for anything, obviously, we’d never do that for any team, especially the Packers, but yeah, it definitely feels weird. Looks like all signs are pointing towards snapping the ball somewhere else next year…. [There’s] a little more anxiety, a little more uncertainty, just wanting to get this all over and finding a new home.”

We don’t have much longer to wait to see if these three players become Miami Dolphins.

Free agent signings commence at the beginning of the new NFL year, on March 17, 2021 at 4 pm EST.
