The 2023 World Baseball Classic is about to start, and several high-profile MLB players will be on the field trying to help their respective countries win.
Freddie Freeman is one of those, as he will be the leader of Team Canada as they try to complete an upset.
Despite being born in Fountain Valley, California, Freeman plays for Canada.
Both of his parents are from Ontario, Canada, and because of that, Freeman holds Canadian citizenship in addition to American citizenship.
Not only that, but he also wears Canada’s red proudly and his presence alone will make the team competitive at the very least.

Freeman and Canada are part of Pool C with United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Great Britain.
These games will be played in Phoenix, Arizona, from March 11-15.
Besides Freeman, Canada will have several players currently in MLB or with experience as major leaguers.
Adam Loewen, Matt Brash, Abraham Toro, Andrew Albers, Cal Quantrill, Tyler O’Neill, and catching prospect Bo Naylor will be on the roster and represent a solid foundation.
The competition will be fierce, and the limited number of games might work in Canada’s favor.
Roster-wise, they are better than Great Britain and at least comparable (but still worse) than Mexico and Colombia.
They are considerably worse than Team USA, but stranger things have happened in sports.
If Freeman has an inspired tournament, who knows?
Maybe Canada has a chance to sneak into the second round.
We can doubt the quality and depth of the Canadian roster, but not Freeman’s stature as a true MLB star.
He won an MVP award just three years ago and remains in his prime.NEXT: Mookie Betts Flashes The Leather At A New Position
