MLB is a small universe: players’ paths usually cross at some point in their careers.
In the case of Los Angeles Dodgers players Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward, their paths crossed on the Atlanta Braves.
The Dodgers are giving Heyward a chance after he was granted his release by the Chicago Cubs.
Heyward played with the Braves from 2010 to 2014; while Freeman was there from 2010 to 2021.
They have known each other since the minor leagues, though: they go way back, and now will have a chance to reunite on the Dodgers.

Judging by his Instagram story, Freeman is looking forward to reuniting with his friend.
Heyward Has A Long Way To Go Before Being Productive Again
Heyward, 33, is not the player he used to be when he was a Brave.
There might be something left in his bat, but the odds are against him.
If there is a team in baseball capable of getting the best out of a veteran, it’s the Dodgers, so there is a chance.
He was bad in 2021 (.627 OPS) and even worse this past season (.556 OPS), so things are not looking particularly good.
The risk is very low for the Dodgers, however, as they haven’t invested too many resources into the signing.
Perhaps the thrill of playing for a contender will help Heyward get his career back to the point in which he can at least be a viable reserve outfielder.
That would be an ideal scenario for everybody involved.
The world of baseball will be rooting for him, as he has a reputation as a standup guy.
Hopefully Freeman can also help him and Heyward can be a Dodger for the last few years of his playing career.
