Brendan Haywood is one of the few NBA stars to have played with both Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Therefore, he has a very unique perspective on what the two icons have in common and how they are different.
Speaking to Fubo Sports, Haywood opened up about their similarities and differences.
Although he said that they both “wanna win,” Haywood did admit that James will be a bit more polite and “politically correct” when working with others.
As for Jordan, he will tell you what he thinks to your face and won’t sugar-coat it at all.
Haywood told the tale of showing up to the gym at around 10 in the morning, getting ready to start some conditioning and practicing.
He had been beaten there by Jordan by a good three hours.
At this time in his career, Jordan was 40 years old and nearing the end of his time in the league.
But he was still incredibly driven and the first person in the gym, no matter how late a night he had.
He also still had a very competitive edge and didn’t give players soft pep talks, instead showing them what he wanted and demanding a lot.
Haywood noted that Jordan was acting as a GM for the Washington Wizards at the time, aside from just being a player.
As for James, Haywood said that James is more likely to “massage the situation” when there is something going wrong on a team.
His approach is softer but seemingly just as effective.
Haywood said that despite their differences, both Jordan and James are top-tier talent.
Because of that and his relationship with both, he won’t give an opinion about who is the greatest of all time.
