Baker Mayfield has been released by the Carolina Panthers.
The former Heisman winner and number one pick in the 2018 NFL Draft was today released by the Panthers, the team that traded for him at the beginning of the season after spending four years with the Cleveland Browns.
When any player is released by their team, there is always speculation about where they will go next.
A former NFL quarterback has an idea of where Mayfield could end up.
Baker Mayfield to the 49ers

RGIII thinks that the San Francisco 49ers would be a good fit for Mayfield.
Let’s look into this.
The 49ers And Mayfield?
This does make some sense.
In their last game, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left the game in the first quarter with a foot injury.
It was then announced that Garoppolo had broken his foot, and would be out for the rest of the season.
Backup quarterback Brock Purdy stepped into the game and performed fine, throwing for 210 yards with two touchdowns, as the 49ers won 33-10.
As Purdy is a backup quarterback, this means that there is an opening in the 49ers’ quarterback chart
An opening that Mayfield could easily fill, and could even replace Purdy if he fails to perform or gets injured.
Mayfield would also have a familiar face in the 49ers offense with running back Christian McCaffrey, having gone over from the Panthers to the Bay Area earlier in the season.
While it may not be a long-term move, a move to the 49ers would at least give Mayfield a chance to play football.
